FAQ

Questions people usually ask

About the practice

What does "metanoia" mean?

It's a Greek word for a transformative shift of mind — the experience of your perception, understanding, or sense of self moving beyond where it's been.

How is this different from seeing a psychologist or counsellor?

I integrate psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis, and coaching in one relationship, rather than you seeing several practitioners for each piece. The approach is customised to you rather than a fixed protocol.

Is clinical hypnosis the same as stage hypnosis?

No. Clinical hypnosis is research-supported therapy — you remain fully conscious and in control throughout. It has nothing to do with entertainment hypnosis.

Do I need a specific problem to begin?

No. Many people start with a general sense of discomfort, feeling stuck, or wanting to navigate a transition thoughtfully. We clarify the focus together as we go.

Sessions & fees

What does the initial consultation involve, and is it really free?

Yes — it's a genuine 30–45 minute conversation, not a sales pitch. We both assess fit, with no obligation on either side.

What do sessions cost?

Fees are discussed individually based on the work involved. I keep rates reasonable and I'm happy to discuss options if cost is a barrier.

Are sessions covered by Medicare?

No — Medicare's Better Access programme doesn't extend to hypnotherapy or strategic psychotherapy, though some private health funds offer rebates.

How long does the work take?

It varies significantly. Drawing on brief therapy traditions, some clients experience a lasting shift in a single session; others prefer a more gradual process. There's no prescribed number of sessions.

Where are you based? Do you work internationally?

The practice is entirely online, serving clients across time zones, worldwide.

Confidentiality & other questions

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, within standard ethical and legal limits, including mandatory reporting obligations where there's a risk of serious harm. Full detail is on the Client Welcome page.

Do you work with men, couples, or organisations?

The practice is primarily focused on women, but I consider other enquiries case-by-case. Organisational work includes leadership and team wellbeing.

What if I'm in crisis right now?

Please contact a specialised crisis service rather than this practice. See the Crisis Resources page — in Australia, Lifeline is 13 11 14, Beyond Blue is 1300 22 4636, and 000 is for immediate danger.
